Question about muscle gain at maintenance calories

So I'm currently trying to put on a bit of muscle and had a question about how to go about it. I've always been a runner and am currently a first time lifter. I've been following a full-body beginners program for nearly a month. I'm a 20yo, 6 ft, 160 lbs male with roughly 15% body fat. Basically I'm wondering how much I should be eating to maximize muscle gain/ minimize fat gain. I don't eat junk and I make sure to reach my protein macros, but I'm unsure if I should be eating at a caloric surplus or deficit. I have pretty low muscle mass currently, so the fat I have around my stomach is pretty evident and I don't want to risk putting on more fat through bulking. I've been thinking about just eating at my maintenance calories, which is around 2000, but than I theoretically wouldn't gain any muscle right?

I feel like I'm overthinking this, but as a new lifter, what do you recommend?

Thanks
