What’s the best amount of exercise for health?

What’s the best amount of time to workout for health benefits.

E.g. is running 3 hours better than running 30 minutes from a health point of view?

I know the government recommend 20-30 minutes of exercise per day. But at what point does diminishing returns become a factor?
