What's a good cost-efficient dumbbell setup? Adjustable vs 1" spinlock vs olympic handles?

So like many other people I haven't been able to go to a gym in a while and I'd like to get some dumbbells. My budget is around £150, not enough for the premium stuff but I should be able to get something decent I hope.

First of all I've read here that the adjustable dumbbells - the ones where you use a pin to select the weight you want - are a ripoff in terms of price and it's better to get a dumbbell handle + plates to load, especially in my budget.

Next it seems I can either get the standard dumbbell handle size of 1" in diameter or the olympic sized handles of 2".

The 1" handles with spinlock collars are pretty cheap on Amazon, but I've read they can't be loaded with more than a few plates and they're not ideal to rest on your knee for the exercises that need that.

The olympic handles seem a lot more expensive, but then I guess the plates are cheaper? Are there special dumbbell sized olympic plates, or would I just use regular olympic plates on the dumbbell bars and make sure to avoid having plates that are too big so I can still get the full ROM with dumbbells?

Thanks!
