Do you lose strength in a muscle if you strain it?

Sprained my shoulder. Didn’t realize until I found out I was unable to lift as much when benching or doing overhead press.

I care a bit too much about how much I can bench and want to know if I lost progress, or if it will return as soon as it has healed.
