How to get a person with history of DVT and breast cancer fit?

My coworker (50F) has started going to a gym I go to, she's been asking me for what to do at the gym and if it's okay for her to exercise. All her tests are good, blood pressure is controlled, takes arimidex (medication for cancer) and she's slowly fixing her diet. Regarding exercise, she's afraid to do lower body workouts because 2-3 years ago she got a blood clot in her leg.

Are there any dangers for her to do any resistance training? I told her to focus on cardio for now and progress slowly so she can lose some weight and for better heart functions, but can't tell whether or not it's ok to do weight training.
