I'm currently cutting, I do a 6 day PPL routine with 15 minutes of cardio at the end and, while my chest, legs and arm are becoming more defined, I have stubborn last little bit of fat around my abdomen that won't fuck off. I also run 5k three times a week. Ive worked out in total 6 months and lost 40 lbs and feeling and looking good so its not the end of the world tbh; I'm going to just keep at it.
Now as I understand that you can do all the ab exercises you want but that visceral BF is more of a representation of your total BF, doing these ab exercises will cause you to have a defined abs... Hidden under a layer of fat, essentially only you'll know they are there. Also, as I understand, that a lot of an individual's fat distribution is genetic.
This leads me to an observation I had. So when I'm in the locker room at the gym I notice swimmers are usually shredded af. Its different then guys who mainly lift, who usually hold a bit more weight around their abdomen, or guys who run a lot who have low body fat but no real muscle mass. Where as swimmers have muscle mass and a low BMI.
Why is this? Is my understanding of genetic body fat distribution off? Is there something about the resistance of water while swimming, opposed to running, that helps maintain muscle mass while also burning fat? Is my observation anecdotal gibberish? Should I switch from my 5k to swimming? And if so do you have any tips on swimming for fitness, as I can swim, however have no experience other than swimming not to drown, thanks to lessons from 20 years ago?
