Doing intensive sports on plant based diets?

Hey! I always see this commercial on YouTube about a Netflix documentary with all types of athletes of different sports, like cycling and bodybuilding at a high level, that claim to have had great benefits after switching to a plant based diet. Is there any truth to this? The claims seem really exadurated, they all say they not only performed at the same level, but better after the change, which seems fake? Is their anyone with experience of this?
