Need help as a beginner

Hello everyone, I’m fairly new to going to the gym and I need some help with a few things.

First, I need help putting one calf muscles. I’ve been doing calf raises on the machine at about 12 reps per set, but I am not sure if this exercise is the only one necessary for building calf muscles. Are there any more exercises I should add to my calf routine for this, should I maybe use less weight and do more reps (or vice versa), or should I continue what I am doing?

Second, I’ve been doing the basic compound exercises for a few months now and they have helped me to get stronger, but should I continue with these same exercises forever to build muscle, should I increase intensity or do something else to tweak the way I do them, or should I find entirely new exercises to hit these muscles?

An in depth explanation for both of these would be greatly appreciated, and I’m open to hearing about your workout plans as well and what has yielded the greatest results for you all. Thank you!
