Rope Jumping! Help!

Hi! Due to quarantine reasons, I'm very limited in what I can do, so I found my old cousin's rope and an trying it out. After watching a few videos, I learned the basics but I've noticed one thing: I jump too high. Every third jump I feel my knees hurt (I'm keeping them bent but still) and I def notice that I make a lot of noise on landing. Obviously I tried not jumping as high but then I have trouble bringing the rope under my feet and end up stepping on it. It's the right length and everything but I'm wondering if perhaps I need to increase the amount of power I put into it? I'm sorry if I'm not specific enough:( I'm new to this.
