Squats and booty growth

Hi all I suspect I have an imbalance related to an old right knee injury. I get left hip pain whenever I exercise, especially after rowing. My massage therapist suggested strengthening my glutes. I’m average weight with a generous butt. I DON’T want my butt to get larger if I start increasing glute strengthening exercises. Is booty growth a myth?
