I apologize if this is not the right forum for this sort of post.
I am currently enrolled in a graduate program at a small university (~400 students in the program) that is part of a larger school system. Two years ago, they installed a dedicated gym which, while a great step forward, is woefully underequipped. They have a number of treadmills and ellipticals, a cable machine, and several motion-specific machines (e.g. leg press, chest press, pulldown machine), but the free weight section consists of a dumbbell rack (maxing out at 50lbs) and 2 benches. There are no barbells and no squat rack.
I recently met with the facilities director who seemed somewhat receptive to the idea of improvements, but was nervous about the cost and possible liability of adding to the free weights section. I'll be meeting with him again soon; I'm posting here to seek suggestions of the best way to go about presenting my recommendations (specifically for a squat rack and barbell/plates) to help ease his concerns.
