Scheduling the gym in 2 sessions

TLDR; How long can I space lifting and cardio and still get an effective workout?

So I am in full time nursing school and I am a mom. My life is busy (like everyone's) and I've been really trying to prioritize my workouts and weight loss (down 50 pounds since June). In order for me to get the type of workouts done that I like (lifting + HIIT/Incline cardio) I need at least an hour at the gym. Totally reasonable. The problem that the two gyms that I live by are ALWAYS PACKED and I am typically waiting for equipment for 10 minutes. That makes me workouts closer to two hours, and I just don't have that kind of time to invest at the gym, especially if it's mostly sitting around waiting for equipment.

My school is by a gym, and I have an hour for lunch. I am thinking I will start going to the gym during lunch to do either lifting or cardio, and then finish the other portion I didn't do during lunch in the evening after I get my son to bed and homework done.

My question is, how long can I space lifting and cardio to still get an effective workout? Is 6-7 hours between them too long?
