Hi all. So late last year I began doing HiiT training once a week. I'm currently trying to do a lean bulk, so I'm also lifting four days a week, and muscle gains are my main priority at the moment, but I also want to encourage my body to burn more fat. As I have a knee injury, I'm doing the HiiT sessions on a spinning bicycle. I found my program online and it looks like this:
Warm-up (10m, sometimes less)
Intervals: Max effort (30s) followed by easy pedaling (60s), five times (7,5m total)
Easy pedaling (3-4m)
Intervals (same as before)
Easy pedaling (3-4m)
Intervals again
Cool down (5m)
Total: 40-ish minutes.
I also love skiing, so I go to the slopes at least one night a week, and I like to have at least one day's full rest where I don't work out. I've been reading up on HiiT and most sources seem to suggest it should be done several times a week to be effective in terms of burning fat. I feel like I don't have time to do more than one session a week, so my question is: is there even a point to doing it when I can't do it more often and thereby not getting the effect I want? The sessions are really exhausting and I find myself unable to do anything else once I've finished one, so I'm not sure combining HiiT with one of my strength sessions would be a great idea. Thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: just to clarify, I’m definitely not trying to lose weight, as some seem to have the impression of.
